The Silence of the Heart (One-Day Retreat)

A one-day retreat in the beautiful Sufi temple in Katwijk, where the joy of silence alternates with speaking and singing from the heart.

On Sunday, February 25, Sven and his wife Nina are organizing a one-day retreat called 'The Silence of the Heart' in the beautiful Universel in Katwijk. The heart is, as it were, a room where the sound of the Absolute can be heard in silence, giving you direction as to where you may walk. When we give ourselves the opportunity to observe what lives within us, we can be surprised by a splendor that no word can ever speak of, a silence that no sound can break.

The legendary Sufi poet Rumi once said: “Silence is the language of God and everything else is a bad translation”.

This one-day retreat takes place in the Universel Murad Hassil in Katwijk, exactly on the spot where the Indian mystic Hazrat Inayat Khan, the bringer of the Sufi message of love, harmony, and beauty, had a special experience. During this day we gather in the chapel of the imposing Sufi temple to celebrate for a longer period the joy of sitting in silence, based on the idea that if we simply sit and listen carefully, without giving in to the desire to want to change this, that we then hear how loudly life speaks to us. The day includes a joint opening (as well as closing), a long period of 'Sitting' in silence (3-4 hours), a vegan meal, and a lecture in which Sven will speak through short reflections and poems about how we can follow the path of the heart. There will also be an opportunity for singing devotional songs, lovingly led by Merel Maria.
